Tanım

This object consists of a metal mortar and its pestle. Its body has a footed base and a wide opening. The pestle is cylindrical in form and its end is rounded. Signs of wear caused by long-term use can be observed on the surface.

Kültürel Bağlam

The mortar and pestle are among the basic tools of traditional kitchen culture in Anatolia. They were widely used in domestic production, especially in processing spices, grains, and some medicinal plants. Such objects formed part not only of daily life, but also of neighborhood and sharing practices.

Kullanım Biçimi

The mortar is placed on a stable surface, the material to be processed is put inside, and the pestle is used in vertical movements to crush or pound the material.
