Tanım
This object consists of two kerosene lamps with metal bodies and glass reservoirs. The lamps are in a classic lantern form with cylindrical glass chimneys, metal carrying cages, and fuel reservoirs at the bottom. In the upper part there are metal rings used for hanging and carrying. Signs of oxidation and wear related to long-term use can be observed on the surfaces.
Kültürel Bağlam
Before the widespread installation of electricity infrastructure, kerosene lamps were among the main lighting tools in rural and semi-rural settlements. They were used to maintain domestic life in the evening, receive guests, produce handicrafts, and continue daily tasks. Such lighting devices are regarded as important household objects that shaped the rhythm of life between day and night.
Kullanım Biçimi
Lamp oil is poured into the lower reservoir of the lamp, the wick mechanism is adjusted, and it is lit with fire. The glass chimney protects the flame from wind and airflow, providing more stable light. The lamps were used either placed on a table or hung with the help of metal rings.
