Pepûk Akademi is a long-term rural academy initiative developed with Ömeranlı at its center, aiming to bring science, culture, ecology, and social memory together under a common intellectual framework. For that reason, Ömeranlı is regarded, for the project, not simply as a place name but as the founding context for learning, encounter, research, and memory production.

In the texts of Pepûk Akademi, Ömeranlı is described as a social ground where different generations can intersect again during the summer months, where local knowledge and academic knowledge can meet, and where new public encounters can become possible through places such as Pepûk Café. == Social structure and seasonal mobility ==

One of the main factors shaping the current social structure of Ömeranlı is the intense migration relationship established with Europe. The fact that many families connected to the town spend an important part of the year in European countries creates a visible increase in population and mobility, especially during the summer months. This seasonal return produces a remarkable social density not only in family relations, but also in terms of knowledge, experience, and intergenerational contact.

Yet this accumulation does not always turn into a lasting form of collective production. The Pepûk Akademi approach proposes building sustainable grounds in Ömeranlı where this dispersed human resource, which comes together only for a short time, can meet not only around social visits but also along the axes of thought, research, culture, and nature.

The social memory of Ömeranlı is grounded not only in the everyday life lived within the settlement, but also in migration experiences extending to Europe, family narratives, and intergenerational transmission. For this reason, the settlement is also important as a field of diasporic memory.

As detailed on Pepûk Akademi: Ömeranlı’nın Avrupa’ya Göç Hafızası, testimonies of first-generation migration experiences, the belonging relationships of newer generations, and unrecorded family narratives are among the main subjects of cultural memory work in the context of Ömeranlı. From this perspective, Ömeranlı is not only a physical settlement, but also one of the nodal points of a multilayered migration memory.

Ömeranlı is considered a prominent field in the Pepûk Akademi initiatives proposed around oral history, cultural memory, and open-air learning. The everyday life of the settlement, the narratives carried by older generations, the intergenerational contact that intensifies during the summer, and the possibilities for environmental observation offer a suitable framework for programs of research, documentation, and participatory learning.

In this context, pages such as Pepûk Akademi Mekânları, Pepûk Akademi: Açık Hava Akademisi, and Pepûk Café explain different dimensions of the cultural and ecological learning ecosystem being developed in Ömeranlı.

Ömeranlı and Pepûk Akademi

For a more detailed framework, see also Pepûk Akademi: Neden Ömeranlı? and Pepûk Akademi: Ömeranlı’dan Dünyaya.

Social structure and seasonal mobility

Migration memory and diaspora relations

Cultural and ecological studies
