{Condolence Tradition and Its Transformation}}

TRENFRKU

Introduction

Condolence is a collective social response developed in the face of death. Its main purpose is to share grief, stand by those in mourning, and show solidarity. Closely linked with social values, traditions, and beliefs, this practice has transformed over time due to social change and urbanization.

Traditional Understanding

In the past, condolence gatherings were held in the homes of the deceased or their relatives. In small communities such as villages and neighborhoods, this helped avoid leaving the mourning family alone and enabled grief to be shared in a domestic environment.

Condolence Houses and Urbanization

With population growth and apartment life, the concept of dedicated condolence houses emerged. Often located near mosque complexes, these spaces provide a practical setting for large gatherings.

Modern Period

Although modernization changed some forms, the essence of condolence remains: sharing pain and sustaining social support. Today, people also convey condolences through calls, messages, and social media.

Future

The future of condolence tradition will continue to evolve with social structure and communication technologies, while preserving its core principle: shared grief.
